They try to take our baby girl

A little background:  In 2006, we adopted a beautiful little girl from Guatemala.  My wife and I had been trying for a little girl for a while, but never had one.  We had discussed adopting many times, even before we got married.  It seemed the right time to both help a child out and get the little girl we had wanted.  We found an adoption agency in Nevada that received excellent reviews and started the process in December of 2005.  Eleven months and more than $30,000 later we brought her home.  We used most of our savings and borrowed from our retirement fund.  It strapped us a bit, but we had a plan to pay it back quickly.

We loved her so much as did our boys.  After all that we had been through to get her here to the US with us, we finally felt safe and confident she was finally with us to stay.  That is until all of this mess happened…

Back to the present

The social worker that did the homestudy for our adoption called us today.  My wife answered.  She said that she had heard something was going on and wanted to see if we were ok.  We didn’t realize it at the time, but she was fishing.  It seems the agency she works for somehow found out about my charges and asked her to call us to get some detail if she could.

My wife was the only one that spoke with her and she didn’t provide her with any specific details other than confirming my charges and that we were working with an attorney.  She wouldn’t disclose how she found out about what was going on.  We trusted her, otherwise we wouldn’t have answer the phone.  Big mistake.

CPS receives an anonymous phone call

Not 20 minutes later, a group of 3 people claiming to be from our adoption agency in Texas (our adoption agency isn’t located in Texas) made “anonymous” call to our CPS office.  Whomever these people were lied and told CPS that our adoption wasn’t finalized and that CPS needed to remove our daughter from our home!   The CPS social worker assigned to our case told my wife that she currently had no reason to do that.

The social worker’s CPS supervisor asked my wife if the adoption was my idea.  My wife informed her it was not and that it was my wife’s idea and that it took three months to convince me to do it.  That is a true statement, while I did want a daughter and we had discussed adoption, I wasn’t sure we were emotionally or financially ready for it just yet.   Seems someone had lied and told CPS that it was my idea to do the adoption.

An update on my job

My 2nd level manager called to check on me and also tell me that my case was being re-reviewed by the HR department.  Due to my arrest and because of the charges, I was placed on unpaid leave.  My management was working hard with HR to get me back to work.  While I still wasn’t able to come back yet, it was progress.  While my job was important, I was more scared of losing our daughter.

Next we get an unexpected call from the head of our adoption agency and talk to some new attorneys.
